THE UNSENT RECORD

"The Unsent Record" is an artwork that reflects the other side of humanity, the side we choose to conceal from the eyes of the universe. We hide our mistakes, failures, and conflicts. If "The Golden Record" was dispatched to broadcast our beauty and glory, this work stands in stark contrast by recording the images and sounds of a flawed reality that humanity chose to keep hidden.

Mirroring the mechanism of the original Golden Record, audiences are invited to uncover these hidden records by scanning with their smartphones. This grants access to a Web App that decodes the recorded sounds to reveal the hidden images embedded within the record. The experience invites us to confront and accept the unvarnished truth of our world, even if it remains a record the universe will never hear.

Sound Selection

Each sound in The Unsent Record was carefully selected to resonate with the emotion and atmosphere of its corresponding image. Rather than functioning as simple documentation, these recordings evoke the hidden realities behind each moment, reflecting conflict, disaster, loss, and human vulnerability that are often omitted from the stories we choose to tell.

Recording Process

The selected sounds were physically inscribed onto the record using an analog embossing process, transforming intangible sounds into permanent grooves. Rather than preserving audio alone, each groove carries an emotional trace, becoming a physical record of experiences humanity has chosen not to send into the universe.

Decoding Experience

As the record spins, these recorded sounds become the key to revealing the hidden images through the accompanying Web App. In this work, sound is not merely something to be heard. It becomes a carrier of memory, a code, and a witness to the truths humanity chose not to send into the universe.
